McCoy, Jack Sheridan Jack McCoy, 86, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2019. He was born March 4, 1933 in Franklin, NC to the late Sheridan and Flora (Holland) McCoy. Jack served in the U.S. Army from 1951 until honorably discharged in 1953. Jack was united in marriage to Donna Kitchen on December 18, 1955, for 63 loving years. In 1960, he moved from Franklin , NC to Kalamazoo. He worked at Allied Paper for 22 plus years until the closing of the plant. He then moved to Western Michigan University to work in the Paper Science and Engineering department for 12 years before retiring. He loved the outdoors, camping throughout the summer, fishing for salmon on Lake Michigan, Bass Fishing tournaments around S.W. Michigan with his son, ice fishing for anything that would bite and bluegill fishing in the summer with his fishing buddy Paul. He also enjoyed White tail deer hunting every Fall and small game all over the State. He coached Rocket Football in the Fall, for many years (go Blue Devils). He bowled on many leagues in the winter. He loved to farm his land, growing sweet corn and many other vegetables. You could always count on seeing him on his John Deere almost everyday. His barn was a home away from home, the original MacGyver. He spent hours trying to fix or invent new things to make life easier. When he was not working on something, you could find him watching a sporting event for one of his many grandchildren. The last 20 years he stopped by the Portage Fire department almost daily for noon coffee. He leaves behind his wife, Donna McCoy; children, Mark (Teri) McCoy, Renne McCoy and Wanda (Darren) Burgdorf; 8 grandchildren, Jake McClain, Eli McClain, CJ Saxton, Travis Saxton, Alyssa McCoy, Alex McCoy, Sara Siegel and Lorna Siegel; and 10 great grandchildren. The family will meet friends on Monday, March 11th from 3-6 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. A private burial will take place at Hope Cemetery in Texas Corners.
