Ione E. Wemmert, age 97, passed away peacefully on Tuesday November 21, 2017. Ione was born in Racine on September 22, 1920, daughter of the late Stephen and Rose (Rauschke) Kosterman.

She was a proud graduate of Wm. Horlick High School “Class of 1938”. During World War II, she was employed with J.I. Case Company. On November 27, 1945, Ione was united in marriage to the love of her life, John “Jack” Wemmert Sr. They shared sixty-five beautiful years together before Jack passed away on May 31, 2010. Ione was also employed with the Fidelity Title Company. She was a dedicated member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and a volunteer of St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary and All Saints Hospital Auxiliary for over twenty years. In her spare time she enjoyed her Neighborhood Club, Hearts Club, music, dancing, and reading. Ione was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Venetta Christiansen, and infant brother, Stephen Kosterman Jr.

Ione will be dearly missed by her children, John( Julie) Wemmert of Fountain Hills, AZ, Gary (Sue) Wemmert of Baileys Harbor WI, Susan (Rich) Svatora of Midland, MI; grandchildren, Denise Wemmert (Steve Anders), Jill (Phillip) Numrich, Summer (Jimmy) Militello, Abilene (Adrian Matte) Smith; Chris (Dana) Wemmert, step grandchildren, Tony, Joe and Henry Silva; 11 great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Bob Wemmert; sisters-in-law, Margaret Wemmert, and Joan Wemmert; nieces, nephews, special friends Judy Schenkenberg Wemmert, Ellen Keefe Svendsen, Patty Maughan, and other relatives and friends. A special thank you for kindnesses of all caretakers of The Artisan and Hospice.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1533 Erie St, on Tuesday November 28, 2017, 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Steve Varghese officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. Following the service is a planned lunch.
