Hugh Mowry

Hugh passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2018 at the age of 88. He was born on May 10, 1930, in Sturgis, MI the son of the late True John and Ahava (Webb) Mowry. Hugh served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955 and was stationed in Sembach, Germany. Hugh attended St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. He was a 7th and 8th grade English and Social Studies teacher at Portage Central Junior High School from 1957 to 1985. Hugh also worked at Federals Department Store and then George's Appliance. He was an avid stamp collector and a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan. On April 18, 1953 Hugh married the former Shirley "Janie" Kerckove who preceded him in death on March 11, 2016. Surviving are two children, Stephen (Barbara) Mowry of Portage and Karen (Lawrence) Albano of Rockford; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Terrell) Turner, Timothy Mowry, Michael (Erika) Albano, Marie Albano and Matthew Albano; and five great-grandchildren Raphael Albano, Roxanne Albano, Rose Albano, Adley Turner and Jaiden Turner. Cremation has taken place. A memorial visitation will be held from 2 to 3 P.M. on Friday, December 14th at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave., where a memorial service will begin at 3 P.M. Private inurnment services will be held in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church or to Borgess Palliative Care.
