Bud Hatch passed away peacefully the evening of February 7, 2018 after saying goodbye to his wife of 67 years. Born on December 25, 1930 in Jackson, Michigan to Harland and Blanche (Oliver) Hatch, he married Margaret Anne (Peg) Goodacre on January 12, 1951. They had five children and enjoyed camping trips in the U.P. and Canada and several family ski trips to Colorado. Bud enjoyed golfing and looked forward to the annual October golf trip to North Carolina with his golfing buddies, where they would play 36 holes per day for a week. Bud graduated from Jackson High School and attended Jackson Junior College and the University of Michigan before joining the Air Force and serving his country for four years during the Korean War. He was discharged in 1955 and moved to Big Rapids where he enrolled in the School of Pharmacy at Ferris State College under the G.I. bill and graduated with honors in 1958. They moved to Alpena, where Bud worked as a pharmacist for seven years before moving to Elk Rapids in 1965, purchasing Frank’s Drugs and changing the name to Hatch Pharmacy. Bud and Peg operated the corner drugstore in Elk Rapids for 29 years before selling the business in 1994.
