Herbert Doster

Herb passed away May 10, 2017. Herb was born January 11, 1933 in London, Ohio; the son of Harold and Gladys (Recob) Doster. A veteran, Herb proudly served his country in the United States Army. After attending the New York School of Photography, Herb started Herb Doster Photographer in 1968, winning many awards for his photography, and he was a member of Senior Photographers International and the Michigan Photographers Society. An avid softball player, Herb was a pitcher in the Delton Leagues for many years, retiring from softball at the age of 82. Herb and Mary loved farming and gardening, selling produce at many area farmers markets. A member of Hickory Corners Bible Church since 2005. Most of all, Herb loved his family. On June 29, 1963, Herb married the love of his life: the former Mary Schuyler, who survives. Herb is also survived by sons: John Doster, Jerald (Kim) Doster and James Doster, five grandchildren: Jordan Doster, Katie Doster, Ashley Brady, Kristy Doster, and Evan Doster, and several nieces and nephews. Herb was preceded in death by his parents, a brother: Don Doster, and sisters: Polly Salter and Peg Matthes. Herb's family will receive friends Monday, May 15, 2017, 6:00 - 7:00 PM at Hickory Corners Bible Church, where his memorial service will be conducted at 7:00 PM, Pastor Jeff Worden, officiating. A private graveside service with full military honors will be conducted in Fort Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Salvation Army or the VA Medical Center Hospice Fund will be appreciated.
