Helen L. Hanson

Age 100, passed away Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Medilodge of Portage. Helen was born December 16, 1917 in Ann Arbor, MI, the daughter of Frederick and Matilda (Windsor) Tessmer. She was a graduate of Hamilton Business College. On March 2, 1940, she was united in marriage to Donald L. Hanson. They were longtime residents of Dowagiac, until they relocated to Portage in 1969. For many years she worked as an accountant with Yeo & Yeo CPA's. Helen was a member of the Prairie Edge Christian Reformed Church and a former member of the Moose Lodge. Throughout the years she enjoyed reading, playing bridge, golfing, bowling and especially baking and cooking for her family and friends. In earlier years, she proudly served as her sons Den Mother and school room mother. Helen was preceded by her husband Donald on November 24, 1995; also, by her parents and all her siblings Laura, Earl, Vera, James and Edward. Surviving are her two sons David (Caryne) Hanson of Climax and Eric "Rick" (Bonnie) Hanson of Matlacha, FL; several nieces and nephews; and special friends Elaine (Paul) Lemmer and their family. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00PM Friday, September 7th at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. where a funeral service to celebrate Helen's life will be held 11:00AM Saturday, September 8th. Interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery.
