Gregg, age 64, died unexpectedly Monday afternoon, August 19, 2019 at Ascension Borgess Hospital, Kalamazoo, MI following a nine-day illness and with his loving family at his side. Gregg, the son of Clifton M. and Jane E. (Kauffman) McChesney, was born in Gary, IN on June 10, 1955 and moved to this area in 1980. He was a 1974 graduate of Webberville High School. He earned a BS of Anthropology from Central Michigan University, and a BS in Art and his Master in Fine Art from Western Michigan University. Gregg retired from Western Michigan University in 2014 after 33 years of faithful service. Gregg was an artist at heart, he painted in his studio in the Park Trades Center. Had several shows in Kalamazoo and participated in the Kalamazoo Art Hops. He loved to back pack, fish and camp. He was a member of the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo. He worked once a week at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts as a guard so that he could be around and see all the art. Gregg was united in marriage to the former Sarah Elizabeth Barton in Portage, MI on May 7, 1983 and she survives. Also surviving is their son, Sean Patrick (Heather) McChesney of Richland; two precious grandchildren, Devin Zylstra and Lincoln McChesney and his brother, Mark (Darlene) McChesney of Williamston, MI. and a host of nieces and nephews. Gregg was preceded in death by his parents. The Memorial Service to celebrate Gregg's life will be held on Wednesday, September 4th at 3:00 p.m. in the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Richland Chapel, 9170 East D Avenue (M-89), with Father Paul Redmond, officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Gregg's honor may be directed to the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo, 359 S. Kalamazoo Mall, Suite 203, Kalamazoo, MI 49007.
