Gloria Reichardt Eckman

(nee Gentelene) April 3, 2016. Age 90 years. Preceded in death by her husband, Donald, daughter, Sally, and parents Mabel and Peter Gentelene. Wonderful mother of Holly (Larry), August (Peg), Peter (Elaine), and Paula (Ralph). Dear grandmother of Jim (Amy), Penny (Scott), Steven (Megan), Jordan, William, Leeah, and Monica. Great-grandmother of Joseph and Samuel. Loving sister of Nancy Bymaster. Beloved Godmother of Christine and Barbara. Special “grandma” to Rita and Rico. Further survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

There is one more angel in Heaven, one more star in the sky. Our beautiful 90 year old “Queen Mother” passed away in her sleep early in the morning of April 3, 2016 after a short illness. She lived her life to the fullest and impacted the lives of many students during her long career as a teacher, first at Nathan Hale and then for many decades at Pilgrim Park and Brookfield Central. She never stopped being a consummate reader and relentless grammarian.

Gloria was a prototype of the modern woman, successfully combining career and family. She taught her children lessons of compassion, charity, patience, toughness and determination. “GG” was a generous and caring grandmother and great-grandmother. Known as an excellent cook and gracious hostess, one of her dearest joys was spending time with family and friends. Gloria also enjoyed and supported the Arts and was an avid world traveler, with Door County her favorite, especially times shared with her loved ones.

A Memorial Service will be held in The Chapel of St. John the Evangelist at St. John’s on the Lake, 1840 N. Prospect Ave. at 1:00 PM on Friday, April 22, 2016. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. John’s on the Lake Scholarship Fund, Immanuel Presbyterian Church, or Woman’s Club of Wisconsin, appreciated.
