Glenn R. Powers, age 53, of The Colony, TX (Dallas) went to be with his Lord on Wednesday evening, Sept. 7, 2016 in Dallas TX after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born on July 29th 1963 in Kalamazoo, the son of Bernard and Ruth (Hough) Powers. Glenn grew up on Kalamazoo's eastside and graduated from Kalamazoo Central in 1981. In Oct 1981 he moved to Dallas TX with his brother Bernie and worked many jobs among them he worked for Eaton Corporation's Reman Center in Oklahoma City before settling back to Dallas. Most recently he was working as a loan officer for JG Wentworth in Dallas. In 1989 was joined in marriage to his former wife Karen Ylda and began their family by having three beautiful daughters, Rachel, Jessica and Kari which were his true pride and joy. Glenn enjoyed going to Dallas football, hockey & baseball games (but was a Detroit Fan!). He enjoyed playing softball, bowling, golfing and cards with family members. He liked his family skiing trips to Colorado and New Mexico too. In recent years he added the love of riding his Harley throughout Texas, Oklahoma and Tennessee. His defining pride and joy came on April 7th 2016 when he became a Grandfather as daughter Rachel and husband Trent gave birth to Oakley Wilkens, which quickly became his newest shining light of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents; Bernard S Powers Sr (Sept 27, 1997) and Ruth M (Hough) Powers (May 10, 2008) and brother-in-law Sheldon Dunlap (June 23, 2000). Surviving are his 3 daughters Rachel (Trent) Wilkens of Melissa TX, Jessica Powers of The Colony TX and Kari Powers of Rowlett TX. One grandchild Oakley Wilkens along with 4 brothers and 2 sisters; Steve (Robin) Powers of Kalamazoo MI, Vicky (Sheldon) Dunlap of Vicksburg, Deb (Gary) Stoyanoff of Plainwell MI, Bob Powers of Kalamazoo MI, Bernie Powers Jr of Toledo OH and Dave (Lisa) Powers of Seffner FL. Many nieces, nephews and cousins that loved him. We would like to mention his special friend in Joyce Oerhrlein who loved him dearly. Glenn will be missed immensely by all as he was a true inspiration for Family, Love and Life. Services are being held at First Christian Church in Carrollton TX on Saturday September 17, at 11am. In lieu of flowers the family has ask that you donate to his favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in his name.
