Mr. Gerrit Van Westenbrugge, age 88, entered his heavenly home to meet his Savior early Sunday morning, May 24, 2015. Gerrit, known as Garry, was born in Wheeling, West Virginia on June 26,1926, the son of Gerrit John and Loubertha Timmers Van Westenbrugge. Garry was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Ellen Lancaster of Greensboro, NC, and his son, Martin Van Westenbrugge. Garry is survived by his daughters Karen Van Westenbrugge of Coaldale, CO, and Kristin (Steve) Anderson of Minooka, IL; daughter-in-law Sharon Van Westenbrugge; grandchildren Christopher, Jonathan and Linnea Anderson, Morgan and Isaac Van Westenbrugge. Nephews from Greensboro, NC, Mark (Caroline) Austin and Stuart Austin fondly remember Uncle Garry.

Garry grew up in Wheeling, West VA and attended Linsley Military Academy from 5th grade through graduation as valedictorian in 1944. He not only excelled in academics, but in singing and proficient as official military trumpeter for many local events. In June 1945, he continued his military education at West Point Military Academy, NY. Besides his serious studies and military formations, he enjoyed singing in the Cadet Choir, taught Sunday School and help organize a weekly Cadet Group Bible Study; graduating in 1949. His business experience was with Travelers Insurance Co., achieving his Chartered Life Underwriters (CLU) Degree, also a stock broker with Merrill Lynch, and he had his own Photography business. On Sunday, May 31, 2015, beginning at 3 PM, relatives and friends are invited to gather to show their respect and love for Garry at Heritage Life Story Funeral Home - Van Strien-Creston Chapel, 1833 Plainfield Avenue. His funeral service will begin at 4 PM with Rev. Bill Rigg officiating and singing. Interment will take place at Fort Custer near Battle Creek. Memorial remembrances may be made to Berean Baptist Church Missionary program, in honor of Grandfather Isaac Van Westenbrugge, charter member of Berean Baptist Church.
