Geraldine R. Duane (Sage/Shaffer) passed away June 11, 2019 at her home in Kalamazoo at the age of 73. Geri was born on September 8, 1945 in Harbor Beach, MI, but was a lifelong resident of Kalamazoo. She was the daughter of the late Emma Jean Shaffer (Doster) and Allen LaVerne Bean. Geri graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School and later returned to college and earned her Associate Degree from KVCC. As an avid reader, education and learning were always top on Geri's list! Among the things that Geri loved the most, were her family, making ceramics and traveling. Geri enjoyed reminiscing about her various travels throughout the Caribbean, Central and South America. In order to fund her excursions, Geri worked as an Accountant & Assistant Director at Comstock Community Center for 25 years where she met the love of her life David. After retiring, Geri worked at Borgess Hospital as a BA Cardiopulmonary Associate for 14 years where she was recognized numerous times for her excellent service to staff, patients and families in the units, and as being a caring, selfless person going above and beyond for others. Preceding her in death were her husband, David Marshall Duane III, her mother, Emma Jean Shaffer and her beloved Aunt Ellen (Foster) who helped raise her and influenced the person she would become. Surviving are her daughter, Martha J. Lillie (Veld/ Sage) and granddaughter, Lidija V. Lillie (Aija V. Rozentals), special cousins, Carol Holms and Jim Winterhalter and several other cousins. A celebration of life, followed by refreshments, will take place on Sunday, August 11, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. 4:00 p.m. at the Korendyke residence: 6162 North 24th Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49004. Interment will follow at a later date at Oakwood Cemetery in Traverse City, MI where she will be buried with her late husband David. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to the SPCA of Southwest Michigan on their website www.spcaswmich.org.
