Gerald Stahl

Passed away on Saturday, November 24, 2018 quietly in his sleep due to complications from dementia. He leaves his brother Charlie Stahl; daughter, Maureen McIntyre and husband Bruce; son Gerald R. Stahl and wife Cyndi; son James Stahl and wife Clarie; daughter Dianne Knapper and husband Eric; grandchildren Kristen, Brooke, Allen, Lauren, Ryan, and Nick, and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by life long family friend Barbara Redmond. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mary Stahl in 2009, his sister Katherine Stahl; brother Frank Stahl and sister Rebecca Stahl. Born in East Lansing Michigan on April 10, 1932, Jerry was the youngest of five kids and graduated from Michigan State University. He was a devout Catholic and member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Richland Michigan where he sang in the choir. He was a Captain in the U.S. Army and served proudly during the Korean conflict. He worked his entire career for the Upjohn Drug Company in Kalamazoo Michigan where he headed a bacteriology lab. He was a very accomplished scientist and was published at least 12 times. He was often called upon to present his work at national conventions. Jerry and his wife Mary loved Michigan State football and attended every game they could with a large group of friends. He was fun to watch games with and always had choice words and advice related to the happenings on the field. He lived his entire life in the state of Michigan and loved the lakes, the outdoors and the natural beauty of the mitten state. He was a major advocate of the National Park system and had toured most of the parks with his family. He and his wife had a tremendous network of great friends that they associated with for 50 plus years attending sporting events, going on vacations, playing cards and other countless activities. Like a lot of Michiganders, he also loved the state of Florida, and especially Siesta Key. He always looked forward to his annual winter reprisals from the cold and snow. Jerry was a dedicated family man and instilled in his children the strong moral values of his faith along with a work hard/play hard attitude. He had a tremendous sense of humor and was well known for his classic and witty one-liners. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 2nd from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Redmond Funeral Home in Parchment, 2300 East "G" Avenue, followed by a Rosary prayer service. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 3rd at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Augusta, 12648 East D Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heartland Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
