Gerald B. Smith

Smith, Gerald B. Kalamazoo Gerald Bruce Smith died Thursday, December 22, 2022, in Ascension Borgess Living Place. He was born February 5, 1938, in Kalamazoo, MI a son of Ernest C. and Cynthia E. (Roberts) Smith and had been a lifelong area resident. Gerald graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1957 and entered the US Navy and was honorably discharged in November 1960. He then went on to graduate from the first police academy class of Kalamazoo Valley Community College. Gerald then began his career serving as a liaison with the Kalamazoo County Sheriff Department, serving 28 years before retiring as a sergeant. He also served many years with the Sheriff Mounted Division. In his free time, he loved hunting, fishing, and spending time at his cabin in the Upper Peninsula. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Kenaley. On February 23, 1959, Gerald married the former Sylvia Meisling who survives. Also surviving are his children, Lori (Mark) McCullough, Guy (Sandra) Smith, and Jerry Smith; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; sister, Sallie Smith; and nieces and nephews.
