George S. Bray, age 96, of Kalamazoo, MI passed away early Thursday morning, December 8, 2016 at the Brookdale Senior Living in Portage, Michigan. He was born on October 10, 1920 at Lawton Michigan, the son of Stanley and Bertha (Hall) Bray. George was a graduate of South Bend College of Commerce. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Naval Intelligence with assignments in Washington D.C. and Aden, Arabia. On September 17, 1949 in Ann Arbor, he married Ann Stephayn of Lawton. Also in 1949, George was employed by General Adjustment Bureau in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he worked as a claims adjuster for 35 years, until his retirement. During his retirement, George enjoyed playing golf, crossword puzzles and traveling with his wife. Surviving are two daughters: Brenda (Martin) VanAnkeren of Maine and Nancy Flathers of Kalamazoo; four grandchildren: Dean Flathers, Kimberly (Nick) Bond and Christopher (Katherine Buckenberger) Flathers all of Kalamazoo, and Shannon (Dustin) Sinclair of Maine; a great-grandson: Benson Flathers; and several nieces and a nephew. Preceding him in death were his wife of 60 years: Ann Bray; sister: Josephine Russell; brother: Owen Bray and niece: Debra Bray. There will be no public visitation. Graveside services for George were held on Saturday, Dec. 10, in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Paw Paw. Memorial contributions may be directed to Alzheimer's Association .
