Geneva Lake

Geneva Clare Lake, age 83, passed away April 23, 2019 in Portage, MI. Geneva was born April 30, 1935 in Kalamazoo, MI, the daughter of Raymond and Hazel (Bradford) Hirdning. She was a lifelong area resident and homemaker who treasured caring for her family throughout the years. Geneva enjoyed going to craft shows, and loved various crocheting and needlework, reading and camping. On June 13, 1953, Geneva was married to Donald W. Hoogstraten, who preceded her in death on January 31, 1999. Later she was married to Carl Lake, who preceded her in death in 2006. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Vera DeHaan and Raymond Hirdning. Surviving are her four children Donald (Shirley) Hoogstraten, Stephen (Alice) Hoogstraten, Randy (Rebecca) Hoogstraten, Beth (Michael) Ballard; 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; her brother Frank Hirdning; in-laws, nieces and nephews. In accordance with Geneva's wishes cremation will take place. A private family memorial graveside service will be held at a later date in Ft. Custer National Cemetery and buried with her husband Donald Hoogstraten. Memorials in Geneva's memory may be directed to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, or a Hospice charity of your choice.
