Gary Van Dyke

Van Dyke, Gary G. Vicksburg Passed away at his home in Vicksburg on Wednesday March 9, 2022. Gary was born on March 26, 1941 in Detroit, MI the son of Peter and Florence (Williams) VanDyke. On March 26, 1966 he was united in marriage to his loving wife of 50 years, Anna (Reedy) who preceded him in death on January 26, 2017. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Duane. Prior to his retirement Gary worked for several years with the Franklin Insurance Company. Growing up, Gary enjoyed fishing and hunting and developed many friendships along the way. He found his true outdoor passion to be turkey hunting. He started traveling to Missouri annually to turkey hunt when there were no turkeys to be hunted in Michigan and made lifelong friends there. Gary joined the National Wild Turkey Federation and started a chapter in Vicksburg. Under his leadership and with his wife Ann's assistance the chapter became one of the premier chapters in the country. He hosted the first NWTF Hunting Heritage Banquet in Michigan, winning state and national awards, and passed the $1,000,000 mark in money raised several years ago. Gary served as president of the local chapter; Michigan State Chapter President; received the Michigan State Chapter Outstanding Service Award; and the National Wild Turkey Federations Roger Latham Award for Outstanding Service. Gary was very accomplished at hunting and fishing and was always willing to take others with him. He was known to call in the first turkey for many hunters, young and old. Graveside services will be held in Vicksburg Cemetery at 3:00pm on Saturday, April 23 followed by a gathering at Diana Martens, 15397 South 27th Street, Vicksburg, MI at 4:00pm.
