Gary P. Sommer, age 62, passed away Friday, June 2, 2017 surrounded by his children. He was born in Racine, WI, August 15, 1954, son of the late Fred and Doris (Nee: Byrne) Sommer.

Gary was a graduate of Wm. Horlick High School, “Class of 1972” and will be remembered by winning the State Free Style in 1971, 3rd, National Olympic in 1971 and WIAA heavyweight champion in 1972, with a 29-0 record. He furthered his education earning his bachelor degree in Economics from the University of Wisconsin Madison, also taking the Big 10 title in 1976 Wrestling Championship. Gary was employed by Raychem for a number of years in Telcom Sales. He was an avid reader and loved to cook for his family, especially for the holidays. He also enjoyed boating with his family and friends, and in his later years, he enjoyed putting his handyman skills to work on several home renovations.

He will be dearly missed by his children, Erik Sommer and Andrea Sommer; former wife and dear friend, Dolores Graceffa-Sommer; sister-in-law, Elaine Sommer, many nieces, and nephews, and many dear friends. In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by his brother, Fred.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, June 26, 2017, 5:30 P.M. at St. Rita Catholic Church, 4339 Douglas Ave. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Monday at the church from 4:00 P.M. until time of Mass. Memorials to National Spinal Cord Injury Association, Southeastern Wisconsin Chapter, PO Box 270096, Milwaukee, WI 53227 have been suggested.
