Gary Curtis Nelson was born in Racine, WI on July 5, 1951, son of the late Robert and Ida (nee: Puzzo) Nelson. After graduating from Case HS in 1969 and attending UW-Oshkosh & UW-Parkside, he worked at Case IH. But for the majority of his career, he was a recognized mortgage lender at Chase, M&I and Bank Mutual achieving Vice President status. He also enjoyed his social interactions tending bar and sharing a meal with friends & family.

Gary touched the lives of everyone he met with his kind and loving nature, generosity and sincerity. The great love and closeness that he shared with his family was what he treasured most. His granddaughter Audrey brought him true joy.

Gary also enjoyed the outdoors, motorcycling, music and Native American art and culture. He had a strong love for animals, particularly his long-time feline companions, Rico and Rocco.

Gary passed away at the age of 65 on February 22, 2017 at Zilber Family Hospice surrounded by his loving family. Throughout his battle with cancer, he maintained strength, courage and a positive outlook. He will be deeply missed.

Surviving are his are adoring daughters, Katherine Nelson, Kristen (Michael Pinney) Nelson; granddaughter, Audrey Pinney; loving brother, James (Lisa Ramsay) Nelson; niece, Alicen Nelson; nephews, Alex and Ben Nelson; cousins, Sharon Winger, Paul Kropp, Marian Kropp, Rich Kropp; his former wife, Barbara (nee: Erickson) Nelson; his cat Rico; and other relatives and dear friends.

A memorial service will be held at the funeral home Saturday, April 8th, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Tony Larsen officiating. Relatives and friends may meet prior to the service from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society have been suggested.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Comfort Keepers and the Cancer Care Team at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center for their compassionate care.
