Garritt E. Korteway, Jr., age 77, of Portage, MI passed away unexpectantly Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017. Gary was born November 5, 1939 in Kalamazoo the son of the late Garrett Sr. and Alice (Laurin) Korteway. He had lived in Mattawan and Kalamazoo all of his life and was a graduate of Mattawan High School in 1957. Gary was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army. Gary was a paper worker, working for Allied Paper and retiring from Plainwell Paper Mill. Gary was very devoted to his wife Gloria and took extra special care during her lengthy illness. He enjoyed stocks and investments, playing golf, bowling, and was an avid sports fan. Gary and his wife Gloria were antique dealers for many years and he continued the business even after her death. Gary, like Gloria continued to market antiques in his last days. Gary was united in marriage to his loving wife, Gloria Kievit on November 2, 1962. She preceded him in death on April 20, 2015. He is survived by his two children, Kimberly (Bill Van Tassel) Korteway, Jeffrey (Heather Jacobs) Korteway; 2 grandchildren, Katrina and Andrew Van Tassel; brothers and sister, Francis (Shelda) Korteway, Richard (Janie) Korteway, Michael (Mary) Korteway, Colleen (Michael) Brown; in laws, Don (Jo) Kievit, Gwen (Gary) Hamilton; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may meet the family Thursday, April 20 from 6-8pm at the Langeland family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre where services will be held at 11:00am Friday, April 21. Entombment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Portage VFW 1527, 1920 Kilgore Service Road, Portage, MI 49002.
