Frieda Smith

Frieda Ann (Knowlton) Smith, age 83, passed peacefully Tuesday August 29, 2017 with her loving and supportive family members by her side. Frieda A. Knowlton was born in Recreation Park and was a lifelong resident of Kalamazoo. She was in a happy and loving partnership with Warren Sears for 43 years. Frieda was full of life and laughter; she was a feisty little lady with a strong will and quick comeback. She taught her family and friends the meaning of fun, how to love and how to boogie to the blues. Christmas was her holiday!! Frieda's X-mas cheer, cookies and decorations are legendary with her family and friends. Frieda is survived by her three children Garry Davies, Vicki Davies, Christine Brownell along with grandchildren Justin Brownell and Joseph Janssen. She was also loved by extended family and close friends. Anyone who knew Frieda felt the light she cast, the sparkle in her eyes drew strangers close and her friends and family closer. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00PM on Friday, September 1st at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00AM Saturday, September 2nd at Riverside Cemetery on Gull Road (please meet at cemetery hospital entrance and follow signs.) Immediately following the service please join the family for a time of food and fellowship at the Portage Central Park Pavillion (7800 Shaver Rd.)
