Amos, Freida M. 7/14/1934 - 9/3/2021 Gobles Freida Marie (Willsea) Amos, age 87, passed away September 3, 2021. Her last days were spent at home surrounded by family and friends. She was born July 14, 1934 in Gobles, Michigan to William and Madge (Churchill) Willsea. She married James Elwin Amos, in 1952, who preceded her in death in 2005. Freida was a graduate of Paw Paw High School in 1952, attended Western Michigan University, and Parson's Business School. She worked for a time at the American Red Cross, and subsequently retired after a long career as a secretary from WMU's School of Social Work. She also found time to assist her husband with his wallpaper hanging business. After retirement Freida volunteered at the Shepherd's Center of Greater Kalamazoo, Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, and held multiple leadership roles at, and was an active member of, Kendall United Methodist Church. She lived her life according to John Wesley's general rules: 1) Do no harm, 2) Do good, and 3) Stay in love with God. She opened her heart and her home freely, and she loved unconditionally, embracing those around her with love and devotion. Freida is survived by her three children and their spouses, James E. Amos Jr. and his wife Kristin, Charles W. Amos and his wife Tandra, and Julianne (Amos) Shaw and her husband Dan. Freida had seven grand children, Jason Michael Joyner, (deceased), James E. Amos III and his wife Katelyn, Kary Mack and her husband Rick, Karly Amos, Fletcher Amos, Alyssa (Shaw) Newton and her fiance Michael Moss, and Anthony Shaw. She had seven great grand children, Jade Bauer, Zachary McConnell, Ricky Mack, Charlie Mack, Miles Amos, Alayne Newton, and Mallory Newton. Preceding her in death were five siblings, Wendell, Louis, Morris, Claude, and James Willsea. Her loving sister, and close friend, Laurel (Willsea) Sherburn survives, along with many nieces and nephews. The celebration of Freida's life will begin with a visitation on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 from 4-7:00 pm at D.L. Miller Funeral Home, located at 208 Main Street in Gobles, Michigan. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at 10:00 am at the Kendall United Methodist Church, located at 26718 CR-388 in Kendall, Michigan. A light brunch will be served following the service in the church fellowship hall. Internment will be held at 1:50 pm at Fort Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Kendall United Methodist Church or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
