"WHITEY" passed away at home in the early hours of Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at the age of 91. He resided in Schoolcraft where he was lovingly cared for by his daughter Kim and her children Joe and Shai. He was born in Mansfield, Ohio on March 4, 1928 to Fred and Pauline (Terry) Tallman. He was an U.S. Army Sgt. who was stationed in Japan and fought in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged with a Bronze Star in 1957. Upon his return to civilian life, he met and married the love of his life, Mary Ann Surdick in 1958. They resided in Oshtemo and Kalamazoo before settling in Three Rivers, MI with their 3 children - Tina, Brad, and Kim. Many years were spent there where he forced his children and grandchildren to chop and stack wood. Whitey was a truck driver for various companies including Winter Paper Stock, Continental Can, and Essex Wire. He retired as a proud member of Teamsters Local 7 after 46 years. Following his retirement from truck driving, he spent time working at both Olde Mill Golf Course and Pine View Golf Course as a Beverage Distribution Manager. But most days at Pine View you could find him at the Starter Shack enjoying a cold beverage with JR, Taylor, and Greg. He enjoyed traveling with his friends to watch the horses race at Keeneland Race Track. He was longtime fan of Michigan State sports, attending many home games at Spartan Stadium as the "Official Spartan Tailgate Chef". He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 2 grandchildren (Mary and Billy), and his brother Edward. Whitey is survived by his children Tina Tallman & Angela Berry of Waterford, PA, Brad & Laurie Tallman of Portage, MI, and Kim Tallman of Schoolcraft; grandchildren Amy & Nick Carnino of Pittsburgh, PA, Joe Tallman of Schoolcraft, MI, Chris and Stephanie Ward of Cochranton, PA, Stacy Tallman of Portage, Matt Tallman of Portage, Kelli and Nate Lash of Sturgis, MI, and Shai Tallman of Schoolcraft, MI; great-grandchildren Emilie, Josie-Lynne, and Evelynne Lash, Meaghan and Daimyan Tallman; sister AnnaBelle & Fred Bowman of Kalamazoo, MI; brother Don & Dola Tallman of Midland, MI; several nieces and nephews, thousands of friends, and a few enemies. Visitation hours will be from 5 pm to 8 pm on Friday, May 31st at Eickhoff, Farrand, Halverson Funeral Home in Three Rivers. The funeral service will be held at 11am Saturday, June 1st at Eickhoff, Farrand, Halverson Funeral Home immediately followed by interment at MoorePark Cemetery with full military honors.
