Frederick “Fred” P. Hermes, age 92, passed away Monday, April 30, 2018 at Ascension All Saints Medical Center. He was born in Racine, March 12, 1926, son of the late Elmer and Mary (Nee: Simmons) Hermes.

Fred was a graduate of William Horlick High School “Class of 1944.” He proudly served in the United States Army stationed in the South Pacific. On January 8, 1971 at Atonement Lutheran Church he was united in marriage to Veryl L. Haass. For many years Fred owned and operated F.J. Hermes Insurance Company. He was a longtime member of Living Faith Lutheran Church and the Kiwanis Club of Racine. An organist enthusiast, Fred enjoyed playing for 50+ years at various churches in Racine.

He will be dearly missed by his loving wife of forty-seven years, Veryl; his children, Fred (Nancy) Hermes, JanEllen Hermes; his grandchildren, Jonathon (Abby) Hermes, Hannah Hermes, Ben Chatmas, Emily Chatmas; his great grandson, Rowan Hermes; brother, Rodney (Prue) Hermes; nieces, nephews other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane (nee:Crossman), brother, Ross; and sister, Mary (Frank) Ferraro.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 7, 2018, 11:00 A.M. at Living Faith Lutheran Church, 2915 Wright Avenue, with Rev. Denise Mbise officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Sunday at the funeral home from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. and Monday at the church from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at 11:00 A.M. Interment with full military honors will be held at Mound Cemetery. Memorials to the Veteran’s Outreach of Wisconsin or to Mt. Meru Tumaini Clinic, c/o Living Faith Lutheran Church have been suggested.
