Kundrata, Frederick L. Jr. ("Fred")

2/12/1929 - 5/31/2016

Fred Kundrata, age 87, of Traverse City, Michigan passed away May 31st comforted by his wife Marilyn and daughter Karen at his side at Grand Traverse Pavilions. Fred was born and raised in Muskegon, Michigan, graduated from St. Joseph High School, Class of 1948, and attended the University of Detroit earning a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. While in college, he served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Fred had a successful and diverse 50-year career working in R&D and management in the auto industry; as a plant manager at Traverse City Iron Works; and as a securities broker in oil and gas exploration.

Fred married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Tisch, in 1951 in Muskegon. He was a devoted son and husband as well as a loving role model for his five children. Family values, Catholic faith, and a strong work ethic defined his long and fruitful life.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Marilyn; five children: Mary (Jack) Eitniear of San Antonio, TX; Karen Eitniear of Traverse City; Frederick Kundrata III of Cincinnati, OH; Richard Kundrata (Joy) of Scottsdale, AZ; Joan (Mark) Sperandio of Pittsford, NY; and seven grandchildren: Tom Eitniear, Steven Eitniear, Kathryn (Jimmie) Holt, John Eitniear, Ryan Kundrata, Allison Kundrata, and Cecilia Sperandio; sister Patricia (Art) Korson of Goshen, KY and lifelong friend Dick Dornbos of Granger, IN.

Fred is predeceased by his infant daughter Ann (1963), parents Fred and Rose Kundrata (1997), and son-in-law Tom Eitniear (1999).

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, July 7th, 11 AM at St. Francis Catholic Church, Traverse City with visitation one hour prior at the church.
