Franklin Carl (AKA "Frank" or "Buster") Thompson, age 91, of Kalamazoo, MI passed away peacefully Friday, September 15, 2017 at Laurels of Galesburg. Frank was born June 21, 1926 in Oshtemo Township, the son of Franklin and Dollie (Aukerman) Thompson. He was a lifelong Kalamazoo area resident and served in the U.S. Navy during WW II from 1944-47. For 25 years, he served as a Police Officer with the City of Kalamazoo, 10 years as a Special Investigator. Frank was a member of the Kalamazoo Covenant Church, the Comstock VFW Post #6252 and the Helping Hands CB Club. Throughout his life, Frank was active in his community and enjoyed serving as a Kalamazoo County Commissioner for 10 years. His parents; his former wife Barbara (Casey) Thompson; a daughter, Cindy Thompson; a grandson Aaron; 2 sisters Irene Thompson and Marian Marciniak preceded Frank in death. Surviving are 4 children, Robert (Connie) Thompson, Randy (Cathy) Thompson, Roger Thompson and Shelly Thompson; 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 nephews; and many special friends. The family will receive friends from 3:00-7:00PM on Sunday, September 24th at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. A service to celebrate Frank's life will be held at 10:30AM on Monday, September 25th at the Kalamazoo Covenant Church (5708 E. Main St.) Burial with full military honors will follow in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorials in Frank's memory may be directed to the family to help with expenses.
