Age 97, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, November 8, 2019. Frank was born in Duluth, Minnesota on June 6, 1922, the son of the late Nicola and Rosa (Stratioti) Maida. He was a graduate of the University of Minnesota where he earned a master's degree in microbiology and a retiree of the Upjohn Company. Frank served his country honorably during WWII in the U.S. Marine Corps. "King Maida" was a life-long musician, the leader of the band, "The Jolly Coachmen" and was an active member of the Portage Senior Center band. He also owned his own booking agency, Maida Morris Agency. In addition, he was a member of the Federation of Musicians. Frank was a master woodworker and avid cabinet maker. On December 20, 1952, Frank married Mary Beth Murray, who preceded him in death on July 4, 1970. He is survived by his daughter, Gina Scaturro; son, Thomas (Judy) Maida; grandchildren, Marybeth Scaturro and Christopher Maida; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Frank was also preceded in death by his sister, Mary Leddy and brothers, Sam, Nick and John Maida. He was a skilled showman and had the ability to put a smile on anyone's face. Frank will be remembered for his generous spirit, friendly and outgoing personality and will be missed by many. A celebration of Frank's life and Jam Session will be held on Sunday, November 24, 2019 at Martini's, 832 S. Westnedge Ave., Kalamazoo, MI 49008, from 4:00-8:00 PM.
