Francelia "Fran" Whitfield Davis, age 92, of Kalamazoo, MI died on June 24 at the Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Fran is survived by her children and grandchildren and their spouses, and many nieces and nephews, friends, and students. Francelia was born May 15, 1924 to I. Jay and Olive (Summerlin) Whitfield of East Grand Rapids, MI. A graduate of East Grand Rapids High School and Scripps College, she received her Master's Degree from the University of Michigan School of Music. She taught piano and voice at Stephens College, the University of Redlands, and her alma mater Scripps College, as well as many private piano and voice students in Bloomington, IN and Kalamazoo, MI. Francelia was a longtime honored volunteer for Planned Parenthood in Kalamazoo. Our mother, grandmother and aunt was an extraordinary combination of talent, humor and grace. Francelia was predeceased by her beloved husband, our father Robert S. Davis, her parents and stepfather, as well as her sister, Katharine (Pat) Germain, brother-in-law Marvin L. Germain, and her son-in-law Ralph McNabb. She was a loving mother to Robin S. Davis-McNabb of Kalamazoo, Corey W. (Michelle) of South Haven, and Christopher S. (Teresa Stevens) of Lawrenceville NJ, and proud grandmother of Catherine (Joe), Robert (Ashleigh), Lindsay, James, Edward and Christian. She had many nieces and nephews and dear friends, including The Stroupe Family, who will miss her greatly. Fran will be cremated and a private ceremony will take place at the family cottage on Torch Lake in August. Contributions in Fran's memory can be directed to Hospice of Southwest Michigan, Ministry with Community or The Alzheimer's Association .
