Rose, Floyd 10/19/1931 - 7/7/2020 Bloomingdale Floyd Alvin Rose passed away peacefully at his home on July 7th, 2020, at the age of 88. Those who knew and loved Floyd will forever remember him as a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great great-grandfather and friend who was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed him. Floyd's wife and best friend passed away in February, and his family finds peace and comfort knowing that the two have reunited in Heaven. Floyd and Joanna were married in Bangor, MI, on October 6th, 1951, before welcoming their two children: Susan and David. Floyd owned his own service station in Bloomingdale for many years before going to work for Fullers (Eaton), Kalamazoo Stamp and Die, GM, and National Waterlift, from which he retired. Once he and Joanna were both retired, they began traveling in their fifth wheel and the couple quickly decided they loved being in Florida and in Branson, Arizona, taking many trips to both destinations. When they weren't traveling, Joanna and Floyd loved spending time with their siblings, dancing and doing the polka on Saturday nights, cruising the lake on their pontoon boat, snowmobiling with friends, hunting, fishing, camping with their grandkids, gathering with peninsula friends for bonfires, and partaking in cocktail hour on the lake. Floyd loved working with his hands and you could often find him fixing friends' cars, boats, mowers, and tractors. He also enjoyed spending time on the lake, and if you lived at Great Bear Lake, you often saw him working in his yard and on his beach, tinkering in his workshop, or passing by on his pontoon boat. Floyd was nicknamed Bumpa by his grandchildren and many of his family members and friends grew to know him by this name. Bumpa was so extremely proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren's many accomplishments and if you knew Bumpa at all, you have heard endless bragging about sporting events, fishing tales, art awards, college careers and work careers. Bumpa recently described his family when he said, "Joanna and I have the most perfect family in the world and we love everybody so much." Floyd described his wife as his life and often said, "I have never had anyone love me so much." Joanna preceded Floyd in death along with his mother and father, Beatrice and Otis Rose, and his four brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his children, Susan and Gary Mortensen and David and Cheri Rose; by his grandchildren, Stephanie (Jason) Rainey, Ron (Holly) Mortensen, Kyle Rose, and Amanda (Pete) Wyman. His great-grandchildren include Bridgette and Brandon Rainey, Jaynee (Kasey) Poel, Isaac (Claudia) Mortensen, Gavin Mortensen, and Greyson and Brooklyn Wyman. Floyd was also excited to welcome two brand new great great-grandchildren: Mary Kaye Poel and Knox Mortensen. The family will receive friends Sunday, July 12, from 12 noon until 3 p.m. at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. They will receive friends again, Monday, July 13 from 2 pm until 3 pm with a Graveside Service at 3 pm at Spring Grove Cemetery in Bloomingdale, MI. His cousin Bill Rose will officiate. Memorials can be given to Kindred Hospice, 1911 W. Centre Ave, Ste 1, Portage, MI 49024 Arrangements have been handled by the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
