Florence MacGillis (nee Payleitner)

Passed away peacefully after complications due to a fall August 10, 2014, age 88 years. Preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Lillian Payleitner and siblings: Valentine Payleitner, Norman (Buzz) Payleitner, and Josephine Mueller-McNeil. Florence is survived by her beloved husband, Paul, whom she met when she was 14, and recently celebrated their 65th anniversary. Loving mother of Timothy, Thomas (Sally Bergman), and John (Elaine) MacGillis, and Jean (Kevin) MacGillis LaMere. Cherished grandmother of Ryan (Leah) J.D., Christopher (Ann) J.D., Kyle (Dianna) M.D., Sean, Elle, Scott, Alexandra, and Danielle. Dear sister of Maryann (Gil) Wick and Allen (Julie) Payleitner. Further survived by other relatives and friends.

Florence was a graduate of Wisconsin State Teachers College (UW-Milwaukee) and was a dedicated elementary school teacher for the Milwaukee Public School system, as well as St. Therese Parochial School. She was active in the Phi Sigma Lambda Sorority, Christian Mothers and Greenfield Women's golf. After her retirement, Flo and Paul spent weekends and summers in Mercer, Wisconsin, where they belonged to St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church. She was an avid reader and immensely enjoyed the Mercer Public Library. They recently relocated back to Wisconsin (to the New Berlin Regency Senior Community) after living in Hot Springs Village for 18 years where she was an active member of Sacred Heart Parish and assisted with the Meals on Wheels program. As an active retiree, she loved golf, swimming, bridge, reading and spending time with her friends and family.

Family and friends will gather at St. Therese Parish, 9525 W. Bluemound Rd. Wauwatosa, WI 53226 on Mon. Aug. 18, 2014 from 9:30 AM until the time of the Memorial Mass at 11:00 AM. If desired, memorials to Mercer Public Library, 2648 W. Margaret Street, Mercer, WI 54547-0516.
