Florence Mae 'Jerry' Fetzer of Kalamazoo, MI passed away Friday, April 28, 2017 unexpectedly from pneumonia at Borgess Medical Center. She was born in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Eva and Samuel Coombs. She was a full time worker all her life until she retired from Hamady Brothers Grocery Stores. Surviving is her son, Dennis and wife Diana Fetzer, along with her daughter Tanya and Larry Potter. Grandchildren are Leigh (Nathan Remsberg along with their expected daughter 7/2017). Grandson Nathan Fetzer along with his children (Colton 12/20/96, Kayla 8/4/97, Gavyn 3/29/2000, Fionna 11/2013). Grandson Nicholas Fetzer along with his children (Taylor 8/28/99, Nicholas 10/07/2000, Stacie 2/19/2003, Natalie 7/25/2005, Cameron 1/31/2008, Dominic 5/12/2012). She was also close to her step-brother Walter Urban. Preceding her in death was her son Paul Fetzer died 8/09 /2016 and his partner Madonna Birch. Jerry's husband of 51 years, Joseph B Fetzer, Jr. died in January 1994. Jerry and Joe lived in San Diego, CA when they were first married while Joe was stationed in Marines during the war. He was to be shipped overseas several times but at the last minute his orders were changed. She worked at the factor during this time similar to Rosie the Riveter working on painting war planes. After the war they returned to their home town in Flint and later moved to Davison, Michigan. She worked full time while raising 3 children. She served on the local school PTA and various fund raising events. Both were involved in the local community. Upon Joe's retirement from GM they moved to Florida where he passed away and she remained until 2008. They enjoyed roller skating, playing cards, having friends over, visiting the casino, bingo, dancing, crafts, looking for shells on the beach, and golfing. In 2008 she moved back to Michigan in Kalamazoo to be closer to family. She lived at Brookdale from March 2014 thru June 2016 then moved to Amber Place until her passing. She loved to socialize at Amber Place and was never short of stories to tell. Her diabetes and a mini stroke took its toll on her memory and ability to live alone. She remained cheerful, never seemed to stop talking, loved walking, shopping and enjoyed the staff at Amber Place. Her biggest love of her life was her husband and her 3 children. We will miss her. Cremation has taken place and a private committal service was held. The family extends special thanks to the staff at Amber Place for their diligent, personal and compassionate care and all the fun times they happily supplied. Langeland Family Funeral Homes
