Evelyn Kelly

Evelyn Anne (Laurin) Kelly, age 71, of Des Moines, IA passed away quietly at home, on August 22, 2017, after a courageous two-year battle with ALS. Her husband and primary caregiver, Robert J. Kelly was by her side. She was born on December 5, 1945, in Kalamazoo, MI, daughter of the late V. Barbara and Roland D. Laurin.Raised in Kalamazoo, she graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School and Davenport College.An accountant and office manager for most of her working life,she did notretire until December 2016. An avid bowler, she continued to bowl on Senior Leagues in Iowa.She was a voracious reader and a very creative needlecrafter, leaving behind many precious pieces of personalized work. Evelyn was a caring and supportive person who always wanted to help others She will be greatly missed by her husband, Robert J. Kelly of Des Moines, IA; her son Martin Bud Beery and daughter-in-law Diann Beery of Otsego, their children,Patrick Fisher and Julia (Allen) Chastine, and grandchildren, Jordan Hunter, Dante and Alyia Chastine and Cody Fisher; her daughter Heather Lynn Beery-Ritsema of Kalamazoo, and her children, Amanda Ritsema and Casey Ritsema; her sister Pamela (Laurin) Buchanan and brother-in-law James Buchanan, and their daughter Laurin Buchanan; as well as many cousins and friends. She will also be missed by her faithful companions, rescue dogs Kirby and Jace. According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. Private burial servies will be held at a future date. Arrangements are being made for a gathering of friends and family and will be announced. She requested memorial contributions be directed to ALS/MDA.
