Evelyn L. Hogarth died peacefully on February 25th, 2019 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence Facility after battling lung cancer at the age of 92.

She was born in Muskegon, Michigan on August 2nd, 1926, the daughter of Marlyn F. and Ruth (Sherman) Jenkins. Evelyn was a graduate of Muskegon Heights High School in 1944 and graduated in 1948 from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics; she then returned to earn her Teaching Certification.

Evelyn was married to the love of her life, Grant G. Hogarth on August 7th, 1948 at the Temple Methodist Church in Muskegon. She follows her husband in death, for Grant passed away in 2009.

She is survived by her children: Grant Hogarth Jr. of Sterling, CO., Rand Hogarth of Aurora, CO., and Gale E. Doster & husband Mark Doster of Plainwell, MI; her grandchildren: Grant III (Suzanne) and William Hogarth of Sterling, CO., Katelyn, Madelyn, and Jake Hogarth of Aurora, CO., Melissa (Derick) Wyatt, Jennifer and Matthew (Michelle) Doster of Plainwell, MI.; along with 3 great grandchildren, Jaxson and Jayden Guerrant and Laurel Hogarth; a sister, Marilyn (Robert) McCarthy of Muskegon, MI; and 19 nieces and nephews.

She was engaged as a homemaker and Public School elementary grade teacher for the Comstock, Kalamazoo and Plainwell Schools for 27 years.

Evelyn enjoyed her family, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends. She took special joy and interest in gardening, flowers, sewing, traveling, and downhill skiing with her husband. She was active in the Leisure Time Condo Association and headed the flower committee for a number of years. She was an active member of the Second Reformed Church in Kalamazoo, was previously a member of the First United Methodist Church in Plainwell, MI. where she also resided for 17 years. She served as a direct response worker for the Kalamazoo Deacons Conference for 10 years.

Cremation has taken place at her request. The family will receive friends from 4-7 PM on Friday, March 8, 2019 at Betzler Life Story Funeral Home, 6080 Stadium Drive; Kalamazoo (269) 375-2900. A Memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday at the Second Reformed Church, 2323 Stadium Drive; Kalamazoo. Burial will be at the Ft. Custer National Cemetery in the Battle Creek.
