Coy, Eugene Ellsworth (July 6,1929-August 6,2021) Eugene "Gene" Ellsworth Coy, at the age of 92, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 6, 2021. He was a resident of Pensacola, FL for the last 10 years. Eugene, or "Gene" as he was known, was born at home in Comstock Twp. Kalamazoo MI to the late parent's Elmer and Ferne (Trehearne) Coy. Three years later his sister Marilyn arrived. They had a small, tightknit community upbringing where extended family of all generations were part of their everyday life. Their Mother Ferne was very active in the local Methodist Church, and so Gene and Marilyn enjoyed a long relationship with their own Methodist Churches, and various groups throughout their lives. Their Faith and being of service to others was the very foundation for each of them. Gene enjoyed creative writing and public speaking as well as carpentry skills thru his school years, which he would continue thru many chapters of his life. A 1948 graduate of Comstock HS, he also discovered what a passion he had for photography. He eventually followed his dream, with some training, to go on to be a Professional Photographer for over 50 years. He and his 2nd wife Willie settled down in Tulsa, OK where they owned "Coy's" Beverly Studio for nearly 30 yrs. He got involved with local, state, and national level Photography organizations, and he went on to win many awards in his profession. Through the years he used many of his skills, such as teaching Dale Carnegie courses, which taught him "he never met a stranger" and always would be meeting people. He was always learning something new or creating and building a project. He loved traveling in the United States or abroad. Music was always a big part of his life. He did learn to play piano somewhat and drums, but he loved singing and dancing most. He did love to "cut a rug" and enjoyed it as long as he could. Gene married three times in his life. First to Phyllis Stroup of Comstock, MI mother of Sheryl, who preceded him in death, Thomas, and Tracey. His second wife Wiladean Smith of Fort Wayne, IN, preceding him death, had Mary, Connie and David. Lastly, he married Karen Christensen of Detroit, MI.
