Ethel Mumford

Ethel J. Mumford, age 95, of Kalamazoo, MI, passed away peacefully at her home on the 11th of November, after a brief battle with cancer. She was born to Merle and Edna (LaFeven) Butcher on October 5, 1921 in Ewen, MI. She was a thoughtful and adventurous woman who will be missed greatly by family and friends. She was a graduate of Lawton High School in 1939. She enjoyed her trips to Sidnaw, MI to their cabin where she loved to go fishing. She also enjoyed making pies, canning foods, reading, crocheting, and keeping her flower garden. Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, Merle and Edna Butcher; husband of 72 years, Arthur C. Mumford; three sons, Donald, Robert, and Charles Mumford; a daughter-in-law, Debra Mumford; and a granddaughter, Tara Sperry. She is survived by her daughter, Arlene (Steve) Verburg, Katherine Mumford and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews; a dear brother-in-law, Donald Deen and Clifford Barrick; sisters-in-law, Doris Mumford and Jean Mumford. Services were held on November 16, 2016 at Calvary Baptist Church, Mattawan with Pastor Greg Van Heukelom presiding.
