Surrounded by his family, Ernest William Jackel, age 90, passed away Thursday, November 26, 2015 at his home. He was born in Madison, WI, July 18, 1925, son of the late Wilhelm and Martha (Nee:Sauerbrey) Jackel.

Ernest served in the U.S. Army as a Lieutenant during WWII stationed in the Pacific Theatre. On September 13, 1952 at Holy Name Catholic Church he was united in marriage to Dolores J. Niemiec. Ernest was employed at St. Luke’s Hospital for 29 years, retiring in October of 1988 as Director of Patient Finances. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed sailing, traveling and crossword puzzles. Above all he was proud of his three sons and cherished the time spent with his family. He will be dearly missed.

Surviving are his loving wife of 63 years, Dolores; sons, Paul R. Jackel and Peter K. Jackel of Racine; grandchildren, Hannah and Max; special cousins, Harry and Hannahlore Ludwig; other relatives and dear friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Gregory; daughter-in-law, Therese; and his brother, Hans.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 1533 Erie St., Tuesday, December 1, 2015, 10:00 A.M. with Reverend Steve Varghese officiating. Entombment with full military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet Tuesday at the church 9:00 A.M. until time of Mass.
