Elsie A. Despins, age 98, passed away Sunday, December 6, 2015 at Franciscan Villa, South Milwaukee. Elsie was born in Racine, May 18, 1917, daughter of the late Frank and Albina (Nee: Just) Kaplan.

On November 9, 1940 at St. Rita’s Catholic Church she was united in marriage to Arthur W. Despins who preceded her in death, March 30, 2001. Elsie was a member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church and former member of St. Rita Catholic Church where she was actively involved for many years. Elsie enjoyed gardening, knitting, and crocheting. Most of all she loved and devoted her life to her family.

She will be dearly missed by her children, Sandra (Ryan) Smith and their children, Mark (Brenda), Shawn, Greg (Katey), Patricia (Bruce) Schmidt and their children, Lisa (Dave), Jeff (Jodi), Jennifer (William), Gail (Richard) Spang and their children, Randy (Kerry), Curtis (Sharon), Arthur T. Despins and his children, Colin (Tali), Caleb, Albi (Justin), and Will; daughter-in-law, Donna Despins; 17 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Rosie Kaplan; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her son, Michael; four brothers and two sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, December 11, 2015, 12:00 P.M. at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, 9303 South Chicago Road, Oak Creek with Rev. Patrick O’Loughlin officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Friday at the church from 11:00 A.M. until time of Mass at 12:00 P.M. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Memorials to St. Matthew’s Catholic Church or the Easter Seals have been suggested.
