Elmer Lang

Elmer Clyde Lang, Jr., age 84, passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2016 in Portage, MI. Elmer was born July 29, 1932 in Birmingham, AL, the son of Elmer and Ruby Lang, Sr. and was a resident of Portage for many years. During the Korean War he served in the U.S. Army. Prior to his retirement he was employed with General Motors for 29 years. Elmer enjoyed fishing and was a member of the Steelheaders Association. He also enjoyed working in his yard and camping, but the most important part of his life was spending time with his family and friends. On July 28, 1957, he was united in marriage to Virginia (Singleton) Lang, who preceded him in death on August 15, 2012. Elmer was also preceded in death by his parents and siblings Oliver Lang, Floyd Lang, Francis Gren and Marie Meyer. Surviving are his daughter Pamela (Gary) Gilchrist of Portage; grandchildren Anastasia (Adam) LaRoy and Jordan Gilchrist; great granddaughters Makenzie and Alexa Rennie; a brother Elton Lang; several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Gathering will be held on Friday, September 16th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Red Cross.
