Elizabeth M. Mero, age 93, of Kalamazoo, MI passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, February 11, 2018 with family by her side. Elizabeth was born in Kalamazoo on March 2, 1924, the daughter of the late Julius and Elizabeth (Meszaros) Nemedi. On June 21, 1947, she was united in marriage to Thomas R. Mero, who preceded her in death on November 27, 1960. Elizabeth was also preceded in death by her son, Richard Mero and seven siblings, Joseph, Julius, Arthur, John, Margaret, Albert and William. She was a kind and loving mother and grandmother, who had a generous and compassionate heart. Elizabeth enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening and jewelry making. She was also an avid reader and especially enjoyed spending time with friends. Elizabeth was a life-long member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she volunteered for many years at the school and within the parish. She was employed for 25 years at the General Motors cafeteria and later worked for the Pepper Mill. Elizabeth leaves behind to cherish her memory four children, Mary, Michael (Fay), Catherine (Curtis Isaac) and Thomas Mero and one grandson, Maxwell T. Isaac; as well as many nieces and nephews. A memorial mass will be held on Monday, February 19, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 936 Lake St., Kalamazoo, MI 49001; Msgr. Michael Hazard celebrant. A time of visitation will take place at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, c/o the funeral home. The family would like to thank Elizabeth's doctors and caregivers: Dr. J. Winkler, Dr. P. Sanchez, Dr. Ladwig, Dr. A. King, Dr. Valituto, Dr. Zheutlin, Dr. Vander Lugt, Dr. Sidhu and Dr. Tabor as well as the staff of Reverence Hospice for their care and support.
