Elizabeth Chadderdon

Passed away Friday April 10, 2020 at Rose Arbor Hospice. Betty was born May 29, 1920 in Swampscott, MA, the daughter of Leo D. and Elizabeth Ann (Flint) Ecker. She graduated from WMU with honors and taught english and business at W. K. Kellogg School in Hickory Corners and Parchment High School, earning several commendations for excellence in her work. Betty was a founding member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, held leadership positions in Borgess Service League, Kalamazoo Deanery of Lansing Diocese and Michigan Council Catholic Women. She served for many years as Secretary of the Parchment Public Library Board. She enjoyed literature, writing poetry, drawing, playing bridge, baking pies and entertaining family and friends. Her generosity and sense of humor lifted our spirits. On May 28, 1945, Betty was united in marriage to her husband of 72 years, Joseph Chadderdon, who preceded her in death on July 20, 2017. Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Thomas and Leo Ecker and great granddaughter Ava Arlee Chadderdon. Surviving are six children, David (Christine) Chadderdon of Kalamazoo, Elizabeth (Phil) Schmitt of Kalamazoo, Patrick (Marilyn) Chadderdon of Kalamazoo, Jean (Patrice) LeJoncour of Noyon, France, Peter Chadderdon of Parchment and Philip (Diane) Chadderdon of St Johnsbury, VT; 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Due to the Covid19 Pandemic, private family services will be held. Interment will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Congregation of St. Joseph or Hospice of Southwest Michigan.
