Ward, Edith A. Kalamazoo Edith Alice Ward, age 95, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 31, 2019. After a brief time at Bronson Hospital she passed peacefully from this life. Edith was born in Mendon, Michigan on May 26, 1923 to Abraham and Miriam (White) DeHaan. Her parents preceded her in death along with her three brothers, George DeHaan (Vera), Robert DeHaan (Cissy), and John DeHaan (Dorothy). She was also preceded in death by her son, Charles B. Ward and grandson Joel Ward. Edith married Robert L. Ward on April 19, 1944 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Bob passed away in 1989. Their life and marriage was a true example to everyone. They simply adored each other. Edith worked as an Executive Secretary to the president of Stryker Corp. for 25 years. After retirement she worked as a church secretary until she was 80 years old at First Church of the Nazarene. An accomplished pianist and organist, Edith used her musical talents extensively at the Nazarene church for over 50 years playing for services and accompanying choirs, groups and soloists. Edith was a loving mother and grandmother. Her boys, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren were everything to her. Surviving are sons Robert D. Ward (Maryanne) and Dennis P. Ward (Judy), grandchildren Scott B. Ward (Jenny), T. Amber Ward, Joshua D. Ward (Heather), Maryellen L. Metcalf (Russell), Travis J. Ward, Steven T. Ward, Emily K. Ward (fiance Michael Colbert), Kyle L. Ward (Jenny), and Chelsea L. Ward. Also surviving are 21 great-children and 8 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Bronson Commons for their love and care of Edith these past three years. The staff always mentioned Edith's 'sweet smile.' A funeral service will be held at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street at 11:00am on Monday, April 8. Friends may meet the family from 10:00-11:00am prior to the service. A light luncheon will follow in the Langeland Family Center. Interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery.
