Edgar Smith

Edgar L. Smith, 76, of Richland, died June 6, 2021 at Borgess Medical Center. Eddie was born April 22, 1945 in Kalamazoo to Aaron and Geneva (Underwood) Smith. Eddie served his country honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps and then went to Western Michigan University where he received his engineering degree. He worked as an engineer for the UpJohn Company until his retirement in 2001. Eddie loved doing leatherwork and working in the yard. Eddie was very talented at Karate. He earned his black belt and was a Master with his own school. Eddie married the former Brenda Nash on August 4, 2009, who survives. He is also survived by two brothers, Aaron Smith and Sonny Campbell; step-children, Windy St. John, Brent Nash, Sarah Olsen and Matthew Brainard and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Eddie was preceded in death by his mother, Geneva; his first wife, Terry C. Smith and a sister, Lavada Brower. Funeral services to celebrate Eddie's life will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Richland Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, starting at 10:00 a.m. Interment with full military honors will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
