Edward Patrick “Eddie” Staskiewicz, aged 96 of Grand Rapids, passed away on Thursday February 4, 2016 at Laurels of Kent. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Helen Staskiewicz, his son, Tom Staskiewicz, his daughter, Marcia Lewis (George Lewis) and (Michael Dempsey), and by his grandson, Timothy J. Staskiewicz. He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Barbara Staskiewicz; grandchildren, Terry Staskiewicz, Ted Staskiewicz (fiancée Michelle Cole), Todd (Laura) Staskiewicz, Michele (Jim) Parkes, Monica Cooper, Mark Dempsey; nine great-grandchildren, Lindsey and Conner Staskiewicz, Teresa and Stacey Krause, Danielle (Matt) Cuperus, Riley and Tyler Staskiewicz, Kailee and Tommy Staskiewicz; one great great-grandson, Michael Cuperus; friends, Rick and Barbara Kilisziewski, Ron Higbee, Jim, Diane and Stacey Kitler; niece and nephew, Patricia (Tony) Nolan, Henry VandenHazel. Eddie was a proud American and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of the Catholic War Veterans, The American Legion and the 40 et 8 Club. Eddie was a Veteran’s advocate all his life, helping Veterans and their families in both Grand Rapids and Walker. He was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 8 at 10:00 AM. Msgr. Edward Hankiewicz as Celebrant. Private burial in Holy Cross Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet his family at the Heritage Life Story Funeral Home – 2120 Lake Michigan Dr. on Sunday from 2:00 – 4:00 PM, and at the church on Monday from 9:00 AM until the Mass begins. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Sacred Heart of Jesus Capitol Campaign would be appreciated.
