MEZYNSKI - Dr. Paul Mezynski died peacefully in his sleep in Temple, Texas on June 13, 2010. He was 81 years old. He was born in Muskegon, Michigan on Oct. 3, 1928, graduated from Ravenna High School and received his Bachelor's degree from Michigan State University. On July 5, 1952, he married Virginia Benson at Zion Lutheran Church in Cadillac. Paul received his Ph.D. in Seed Science from Mississippi State University. His career as an agronomist, focusing on the care and preparation of better quality seed for better crops, led him to work in Brazil and India, teaching at Texas State Technical Institute and numerous consulting assignments in Asia and Africa. He also served a two year tour in the United States Army in Germany. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Riesel, Texas for the last 35 years. In his retirement years he was actively involved with native grassland prairies, and donated properties to preserve the grasses on them forever. Paul and his wife, Virginia were married for 57 years, and enjoyed a life together around the world. He is survived by his wife in Temple, TX; his brother, Rudolph Hugh of Washington DC; daughter, Susan Fratamico and husband, John of San Diego, CA; son, Walter Mezynski and wife, Janet of Temple, TX; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, 350 Pearl Street, Cadillac, Michigan at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 19th. In lieu of flowers, donations can also be made in memory of Paul Mezynski to the Health Science Center at Texas A&M: HSC Foundation, 228 Reynolds Building, Dept of Neuroscience, College Station, TX 77843-1114.
