Dr. Gordon E. Peckham, Sr., age 91, of Battle Creek, MI went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 13, 2017 at the age of 91 years. Dr. Peckham was born on January 6, 1926, in Hastings, Michigan. Dr. Peckham is survived by his wife of 68 years, Elizabeth (Schelb and five of their six children: Gordon and Colette Peckham of Jackson, MI; Brenda and Greg Reid of Saline, MI; Thomas and Glenda Peckham of Ivins, UT; Mary and Dave Deacon of W. Bloomfield, MI; and James and Suzanne Peckham of Carson City, NV; 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and a sister Carol Webb of Davison, MI and a brother, Gary Peckham ID. He was preceded in death by his son Robert Peckham and a brother, Sheldon Webb. Dr. Peckham served as Emmett Township Supervisor for 8 years after having been superintendent of Schools for twenty years in the following Michigan schools: Hersey, Buckley, Holton, Chippewa Valley, and Harper Creek. Dr. Peckham earned his BS from Western Michigan University, his MA from the University of Michigan, his Specialist degree from WMU, and his PhD from Michigan State University. In addition, Dr. Peckham served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, as a gunners mate 2nd class on the USS Cross Okinawa. He volunteered in numerous local organizations including the VA Hospital, Binder Park Zoo, the Kellogg Foundation, The American Legion, Kalamazoo Diocese Pastoral Council and was an active member of St. Joseph Parish Knights of Columbus. Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m., Thursday, January 19, 2017, at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home, Battle Creek. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment with full military honors will be at Fort Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
