Dorothy Kovarik

Dorothy Marie Kovarik, a longtime resident of Northport, died December 31 at Munson Medical Center after a brief illness. Dorothy was born in Grand Rapids on 12/2/1929. She was 84.

Dorothy graduated from Olivet College and was a teacher in Venezuela, Grand Rapids, and Northport. She also taught music and played the piano for several Leelanau County area churches. She attended the Covenant Church of Northport.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her adoptive parents, Frank and Ilona M. Schulte, and her birth mother, Angeline M. Kovarik Gill. She is survived by several Kovarik cousins in the Leelanau area and her beloved cats, Raven and Lilly.

In recognition of Dorothy’s numerous contributions to those in the Northport area, a memorial service will be held at the Covenant Church on Tuesday, January 14 at 11 AM. Dorothy will be buried next to her mother Angeline in the Northport cemetery.
