Dorothy H. Bent passed away Thursday, February 16, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital in Milwaukee, WI. Dotti was born November 28, 1924 in Champaign, IL to Fredrick and Jamie (Nee: Baker) Cox. She graduated from Champaign High School in 1942 and received an Associate Degree in the secretarial field from Commercial Business College of Champaign, IL.

On August 8, 1945, she was united in marriage to her life-long love, Alfred Edgar Bent, at First Methodist Episcopal Church in Champaign. The joyful couple was married by Bishop H. Clifford Northcott and then moved to Rochelle, IL where Dotti was secretary to the minister of First Methodist Church.

After moving to Racine, WI in 1952 and raising two daughters, Dotti enrolled in college refresher courses to return to the work force. She was employed for 18 years as the Administrative Secretary for two Chiefs of the Racine City Fire Department, retiring in 1990. Professionally she served for over 30 years as a member, board member and officer at local and state levels of many organizations including the IL and WI Fire Chiefs Secretary’s Associations, International Association of Administrative Professionals, National Secretary’s Association, Professional Secretary’s International, Racine Jaycettes, GFWC Women’s Club of Racine, Racine Garden Club and Racine Symphony Guild.

Dotti was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church for 64 years. She was an avid golfer who enjoyed reading, gardening, playing bridge and especially spending time with her family. She and Al traveled extensively in the U.S. and internationally and celebrated their 60th anniversary in Paris at the Moulin Rouge with their daughters. Dotti and Al shared 69 wonderful years together prior to Al’s passing on November 29, 2014.

Dotti is survived by her daughters, Katherine Lynn Bent and Barbara Ann Bent, both of Spokane, WA; William Frank (Lucy) Bent of Paxton, IL; and several cousins.

A funeral service celebrating Dotti’s life will be held Thursday, February 23, 2017, 11:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 745 Main Street with Pastor Jakes Voker officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:30 a.m. service. The sanctuary is elevator-accessible from the Main Street entrance. Entombment will be held at Graceland Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Racine Fire Department Carre-Hogle Scholarship Fund (sent to Chief Hanson 810 Eighth Street Racine, WI 53403) and the First United Methodist Church of Racine.

Daughters Kathy and Barbara would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all of Dotti’s friends and neighbors who have done so much to support and care for her, especially since Al’s passing.
