Formerly of Richland, MI. On June 28, 2018 the world lost a very precious lady. Dorothy passed peacefully at the age of 90. Dorothy, also known as Dort or Nana, lived loving her family deeply and was loved deeply back. She was that next door neighbor that would deliver baked goods to your door every holiday, quick to put you on her prayer list, and hugged you when you entered and left her home. She would always hand you a treat bag as you left her home which meant you were now part of her family. During her last years of illness, she would always make it clear, "there's always someone worse off then me". Her positive attitude gave her the endurance to battle her illnesses and lift the spirits of those who visited. Because of her beliefs, her heart to help and serve others, like the time she had her sons and daughter make Easter baskets for what was called then the Coldwater Home for Children, made wedding cakes for her family and friends, made and repaired clothing when asked, created and taught an art class for seniors in her area, transported the elderly to church. Dorothy spent several years teaching at the Kalamazoo Vally Intermediate School District Day Training for Impaired Children touching the lives of many students and their families. Like her sisters Dorothy was an avid reader. She expressed her creative side through painting, sewing, and baking which she would make as gifts for her family and friends. She also used her talents to serve the community by making infant layette sets for low income families, adult covers for senior homes, made baked goods and art pieces for school and church sales. Dorothy enjoyed showing her love by the gift of giving. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, George and Ethel Peck, brothers George, Paul, Donald and Steven, her first husband Lawrence Needham, her oldest son Danny Needham, and late husband Phil Edie. She leaves behind two amazing and loving sisters Marguerite Funghi and RoseMary (Robert) Stickney. Her legacy continues through her surviving children, Terry (MaryAnne) Needham, Larry (Laura) Needham, Susan (Harvey) Kuiper, step sons Jeffy Edie, Mike (Bonnie) Edie and Jack (Sharon) Edie.; as well her cherished grandchildren, Richard (Danielle) Needham, Jodi Needham, Patrick Needham, Jennifer (Marc) Grand, Chad Lucas, Troy (Danelle) Lucas, Nathan (Megan) Kuiper, Larry (Gail) Needham, Lucas (Carmen) Needham, Kristin (Zack) Phillips, Micheal Edie, Nicole Edie, several phenomenal great grandchildren, neices, nephews and friends.
