Traverse City-

Our beautiful, witty, and fun-loving mom and grandmother, Dorothy Blackman, of East Jordan passed away at Orchard Creek Assisted Living on Oct. 6, 2017. She was 87 years old.

Dorothy was born on Dec. 3, 1929 in Port Huron to the late Harry E. and Ilah Ingram. In 1951 Dorothy married the love of her life, Mark S Blackman at the Peoples Church in East Lansing, MI. They were both avid Michigan State football fans, and shared many fond memories at those games.

Dorothy was an elementary school teacher in the early years of her marriage. Later in life, she worked as a bank teller in several locations in Charlevoix. She raised four children and loved spending time on Holy Island in East Jordan MI, boating, swimming, socializing with local islanders, and spending time with her Labrador Retrievers.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Mark, and her parents, Harry and Ilah. Dorothy is survived by her loving family; daughter Cindy Dendinger (Steve), daughter Marcia Blackman (Julio Netto), son David Blackman (Robbyn), daughter Diane Runstrom (Tom). She is also survived by her grandchildren; Andrew and Lizzy Dendinger, Michael Runstrom (Courtney), Laura Runstrom, and Matt Phelps(Michelle).

Her family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Orchard Creek Assisted Living of Traverse City, Michigan, for the care she received, and Hospice of Michigan for the love and support they gave our mom and family.

Dorothy’s life will be celebrated next summer at her cottage Holy Island in East Jordan, Michigan.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hospice of Michigan and/or Charlevoix Area Humane Society. Please visit www.lifestorytc.com to sign the guest book and share your thoughts and memories with the family. The family chose Life Story Funeral Home, Traverse City.
