Bowen, Doris (Maddox) Went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 2, 2015 after a valiant battle with breast cancer. A woman that can best be described as loving, joyful, encouraging, and faithful, Doris was a true gift to all who were within her reach. She lived life to the fullest and left nothing undone. She will never be forgotten. Doris was born to Orville & Stella Maddox in Watervliet, MI on November 18, 1945. She graduated from Hartford High School in 1963. She was joined in marriage to the love of her life, Harold Bowen, on February 13, 1965. They were blessed to spend 50 wonderful years loving, laughing, and serving together. Harold & Doris were blessed with three daughters: Lisa (Martin) Breithaupt, Michele (John) Bowne, and Melissa (Mark) Anderson. The lights of her life were her grandchildren: Justin (Samantha), Brandon (Megan), Alex, Kaleigh, Carissa, Zachary, Nicholas, Lukas, Matthew, Jordan & Josiah. She loved nothing more than spending time with her family and attended countless games, competitions, concerts, graduations, celebrations, campouts and "bond"fires with a huge smile on her face. She covered her family abundantly with her love, and she will be greatly missed. Doris was a friend to all, and spent many hours writing cards to encourage others who were going through difficulty. Doris was a faithful member of Kalamazoo First Assembly of God for nearly 40 years. During that time, she served in multiple ministries. She served on staff at church as the bookkeeper for 32 years. The family would like to thank Dr. Amber Darey, Dr. Muhammad Rafi, the West Michigan Cancer Center, and Hospice of Southwest Michigan for their tender care of Doris during the past ten years. The family would also like to thank Doris' precious friends, Don & Brenda Conley, Jim & Janet Wesner, and Jerri & Jerry Malone, for their constant support and love. Doris is also survived by her immediate family, and her sister, Sharon Strand. She is preceded in death by her parents, Orville & Stella Maddox, and five siblings. Friends may visit with the family from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, October 5th at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St., Kalamazoo, MI 49009. The funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 6th at the Kalamazoo First Assembly of God, 5550 Oakland Dr., Portage, MI 49024, officiated by Pastor Dave Barringer. Cremation will follow after the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Jenison Pink Out Committee, checks made payable to Jenison Public Schools.
