Donna Shafer

June 3, 2019 Donna Snyder Shafer left this world a better place, to be with her savior. She was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on September 12, 1945 to Donald R Snyder and Hazel M Mortensen Snyder. After graduating form Kalamazoo Central High in June of 1963 she went on to study at Western Michigan University, also in Kalamazoo. On August 24, 1968 she married Jim Shafer in Kalamazoo. Her remaining family members include her husband James Shafer, children, Matthew Shafer and Amanda Shafer, one brother David Snyder, two sisters Valarie Snyder Doehrman and Barbara (Michael) Snyder Ponejolic, grand children James Matthew and Miranda Emme-Shafer, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, other family members; Kathryn Snyder, Patty Snyder, Michael Mortensen, and Peter Shafer. During her life she raised two wonderful children, Matthew Thomas Shafer, and Amanda Kathryn Shafer, and of course her husband James Shafer. As her end of life approached her greatest wish was to be able to celebrate her 50th wedding anniversary, and she did. In November of 2017 she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer that finally took her from us. During her long illness she fought admirably through all of the discomfort and pain to the very end, still concerned for the well-being of her friends and family. Donna is loved, and will be missed, by all who knew her. Cremation was her choice and was performed near Gold Canyon, Arizona. To be announced; a memorial will be held in Kalamazoo, Michigan this summer around July 13.
